The role

We are seeking an experienced disputes lawyer with 4+ years PQE to join our busy and successful Projects, Infrastructure & Construction team in our Melbourne office. This position offers the successful candidate the unique opportunity to work on high quality back-end construction work across a broad spectrum of construction matters and contractual disputes. There is also scope to get involved in project delivery and front-end work for the right candidate. You will need to demonstrate solid expertise in drafting of litigation documents, provision of commercial legal advice and be commercially astute. 

This role will give you the opportunity to consistently challenge yourself through being exposed to a range of interesting projects, construction and infrastructure work, as well as being exposed to a range of clients including head contractors, principals, and specialists subcontractors. 

You will be provided with continuous learning opportunities and will be mentored and supported as you develop your career as a disputes lawyer, while building out your specialisation in construction related disputes. Your learning experience will be underpinned by an excellent CLE program, and the opportunity to build relationships within our National Projects, Infrastructure & Construction Team and gain exposure to work across Australia.

You will be motivated to learn and have a willingness to apply yourself in an environment in which measurables are realistic and your career growth is a priority.

To succeed in this role you will ideally have:

  • admitted in Australia with 4 - 6 years PQE experience with contractual and negligence litigation experience. Experience and/or interest working on construction related disputes viewed favourably;
  • commercial acumen and ability to take ownership of matters;
  • an excellent academic record coupled with strong technical legal skills;
  • strong drafting skills with specific ability to draft court documents and affidavits;
  • a commitment to excellence and delivery of high quality outcomes to our clients;
  • ability to effectively manage your own time, managing competing tasks and at time working to tight deadlines;  
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail; and
  • a proactive and ‘can do’ attitude with an eagerness to learn and grow your career with Piper Alderman.
