Join a national disputes practice where your week can span court advocacy, mediations and complex commercial strategy. We are seeking a driven Associate (3–5 years PQE) to join Partner Andrew Robertson’s Adelaide team.

Andrew is a disputes and arbitration partner with a long track record running complex commercial matters across State and Federal courts. He regularly appears as counsel and achieves outcomes via litigation and ADR, mediation and arbitration, bringing deep sector exposure in construction, engineering, defence and professional services. Andrew is qualified in mediation and domestic/international arbitration and has held leadership roles across Australia’s arbitration community, including founding the Society of Construction Law Australia. This is a fantastic seat for an Associate who wants to broaden and vary their litigation experience across court work and ADR, with real advocacy opportunities and partner time.

The work you will do: 

  • Run and assist on complex commercial disputes, drafting, evidence, interlocutory, discovery, briefs to counsel and hearing preparation 
  • Appear (with support) at directions hearings and mediations; instruct in trials and arbitrations
  • Front end strategy: early risk assessment, dispute resolution planning and client advisory notes
  • Engage with experts (forensic, engineering, quantum) and coordinate witness evidence
  • Contribute to know‑how and client alerts; support business development initiatives with the partner/team

To succeed in this role you will ideally have;

  • 3-5 years post admission legal experience
  • General litigation experience is advantageous
  • An excellent academic record coupled with strong technical legal skills
  • A commitment to excellence and delivery of high quality outcomes to our clients
  • Ability to effectively manage your own time, managing competing tasks and at time working to tight deadlines
  • Strong drafting skills with specific ability to draft court documents and affidavits
  • A team player mentality, with a supportive and collaborative working style
  • A self-motivated and “can-do” attitude with an eagerness to learn and grow your career with Piper Alderman
